Cooking Challenge - Afternoon Teas

We decided to challenge our budding chefs to something a bit different this time.  Rather than making one meal, or a visual creation, we decided to combine the two.  When it comes to an Afternoon Tea it needs to look pretty as well as taste amazing, and there are so many twists you can include to make it unique.  I think you can agree everyone rose to this challenge, and then some!

Crustless Quiche

Whilst a traditional afternoon tea starts with sandwiches, who says we have to stick with tradition? And sometimes, a sandwich just wont hit the spot, so what better than a lovely warm quiche.  For those people who don't cope so well with pastry, a crustless quiche is the perfect compromise.

Chocolate Orange Cake

Who doesn't love chocolate cake?  I don't really need to say anything else about this really, do I?  Oh, except, it has got real chocolate oranges in it! (Does anyone else want to just eat the whole thing like Bruce Bogtrotter in Matilda?)

Teddy Bear's Picnic

Afternoon Tea is not just for grown ups. The youngsters are all for taking part in this great British tradition, and a Teddy Bear's Picnic was the perfect way to entertain the little ones during the school holidays.

Tea for Two

Afternoon Tea can even be a romantic affair.  Tea for two with the lights dimmed, a candle lit, and some of your favourite treats, and you have the perfect date.  Just be sure to make extra chocolate cake if you don't like to share!

The More The Merrier

I think its safe to say, when it comes to Afternoon Tea, there are no limits to how many people can come, as long as there are no limits to the space you have in your oven, and this magnificent spread proves that. A fabulous afternoon was had by all and I believe they didn't eat for around 4 days afterwards!

Don't just take our word for it.  This is Theresa's reason for joining in with the food challenge every week, and particularly enjoying the Afternoon Tea challenge.

This food challenge has been my favourite week so far as it meant I was able to provide a luxury blessing to some very special friends . The challenge was an afternoon tea pack which included all the items needed to make asst sandwiches, fruit scones, a big choc orange cake and a dessert of your choice .
Susan kindly told us a bit about it in advance so we could start to plan things and think about who we wanted to share the love and blessings of this pack with . We were encouraged to be artist in our presentation etc and they provided a few items for this too.
My energetic abstract mind went crazy and it took a lot to reign it in and work out what I could actually do etc without making myself ill which would have been the opposite of the purpose of the packs, so I chose 3 very special people who are more than family to me and do so much to help others from behind the scenes etc that people just don't know about so they don't get thanked etc. I thought this was a really beautiful way to make them feel special. So I baked and prepped and produced an amazing spread which made me feel thrilled and excited too. The afternoon was a huge success and there was such a lot of food that they all got some to take home to their loved ones and so it blessed yet another set  of people too. It reminded me of the Bible where Jesus had the loaves and the fishes and a huge crowd of people but with just so little he miraculously fed everyone; well this blessing expanded just like that.
Thank you so very very much and please keep doing the food challenges as well as all your other work as it helps people's well being, mental health and food needs too; not just in practical ways but in all the unseen ways like stimulating positive conversations in a week of pain and depression, or allowing someone to just give for once instead of always being the one in need etc, or helping us to inspire others just by sharing a picture of our creations etc.
May the lord bless you and keep you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the love and help you give me xxx
Theresa
